Not only is the Austrian Society for Tribology (ÖTG) celebrating a milestone anniversary in 2026, but so is tribology as an interdisciplinary science.

On March 9, 1966, H. Peter Jost presented the study “Lubrication (Tribology), Education and Research – A report on the present position and industry’s needs” to the British Parliament.

This date is considered the birth of tribology.
